I was Wes Stowe's Assistant Crew Chief at Anderson AFB, Guam from October 1972 to April 1973 on B-52 D's. We were deployed from McCoy AFB, Orlando, Florida and worked 12-hour shifts, seven days a week during the December 1972 push. .Sergeant Stowe knew the B-52 like the back of his hand. It was truly a maximum effort and we were proud to see the American POWs when they were released in early 1973. Travis M. Wheeler, USAF, Lt Col (Ret)

I was the base Fire Chief at NKP RTAFB, Thailand 1972-1973. Although we responded to many other different types of AC during this time.....the B-52"s that we responded to during Line Backer II will forever haunt me. My Pedro Crews (HH-43B) rescued most of them from 3 B-52's. I had served 2 tours in Vietnam before I got to NKP. I was an E-6 filling an E-8 Position at the time ! Watched as three B-52 were in flames as they went down. Was the Civilian Contract Ass't Chief on duty and watched a B-52 crash off of the end of the runway at Diego Garcia during the 1ST Gulf War. The only one to have watch 4 B-52's to crash during a conventional war ! CMSgt Bob Remel. 100% Combat Disabled Vietnam Veteran.

I went to Guam in Oct 72 thru April 197. I was with the 306 bomb wing, McCoy AFB FL. I was a B-52 Crew chief in linebacker 1 and 2. I worked many hours, and I would do it all over again if needed. Wes Stowe

I'll never forget those days, Dec 18-29. I was a crew chief in the 13th TFS at Udorn and I remember launching the same plane 2-3 times a night. At that time, I didn't know Linebacker II was going on, but I knew it was big whatever it was. Those were some long nights, but we got through it. I felt for the heroes in the air, and would gladly have joined them if I could.
